NU teachers told to increase professionalism

Teachers from Nahdlatul Ulama educational institutions are told to immediately increase their professionalism in order to be able to compete with others.

Chairman of the Educational Institution of Ma'arif NU Muhsin Ibnu Juhan made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting taking up issues of public relations and teacher professionalism at Al Fatah Islamic boarding school (pesantren), Ciomas, Bogor over the weekend.<>

In the meeting initiated by Bogor's Ma'arif NU, Muhsin said that increasing teaching professionalism was very important to support the government programs in developing educational sectors.

"Increasing professionalism is also absolutely important to support the government programs in developing educational sectors," he said before some 100 participants from various NU educational institutions across Bogor.

In the meantime, O Dadan Sarif of the Bogor's religious affairs department said that in the perspective of Islam the teachers could be considered as education fighters. That is why, he added, the role of teachers was very strategic in determining the face of education. The success of education depends on teachers' capability and quality, he said.

Present at the occasion were Asep Saepullah (Bogor's Education Office), KH S Shalahuddin Habsya MA (lecturer at Jakarta's State Islamic University), Ahmad Fahir (lecturer at Bogor's Ibn Khaldun University) and Dadan Sutaryana (senior anchor of Bogor's RRI).
 
At the same time the chairman of Bogor's Ma'arif NU H Saepul Millah Hasbi said the meeting was intended to respond to the increasingly teachers' willingness in developing their teaching capacity and professionalism.

"Ma'arif NU is determined to deal with education changes by addressing the needs of teachers as well as Nahdliyin-managed schools to expectedly be capable of adapting and responding to any existing challenge," the post-graduate student of Bogor Agricultural Institute said. (hir)
